Kilrush House / 2012

Brief: A home for a couple returning to their Kilrush roots.

Location: The site is located behind strip-development on the edge of Kilrush Town. The landscape rolls away southward from the site towards the majestic sweep of the Shannon Estuary.

Proposal: Within the site the rolling landscape is abstracted into a triangulated geometry which rises to enfold the ground floor of the house and is continued into a folding roof which shelters the main living spaces on the upper level. These living spaces face south with wide-angle views across the Shannon Estuary. Bedrooms and ancillary spaces are on the enclosed ground level.
The house, like its occupants, is deeply rooted in its place.

Status: Completed / 2012
